hiking gear, deer hunting

I love debating deer hunting techniques with my husband. Sometimes, I sit in awe as I watch him prepare for the hunting season.

As a kid, I used to watch my grandfather and my father get ready to go hunting. They would pack up their ammunition, layer up their clothing, grab their hunting binoculars and rifle or shotgun, and go. I remember several deer being brought in over the years. I don't ever remember them preparing the way that my husband does.

My husband will start gathering his gear the night before opening day of the season. He loads up his hiking gear backpack, and then he starts doing things like making scent bombs out of bottled deer urine, tightening down all of the scopes on the different rifles he might use, etc.

Granted, all three of my favorite men get a deer whenever they go hunting. I am just amazed that my grandfather and my dad did it with open sites and no extra "help", but my husband insists on going through his routine. I just wonder, did the deer get smarter over the years?
